Metrofuser Introduces HP Network Printer Communications Training Class


Roselle NJ - December 16th, 2012 -Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser (www.metrofuser.com) announced the addition of a new class focusing on the communication issues and errors associated with Hewlett Packard LaserJet series printer models. This class is the latest addition to an ever-expanding curriculum of training for service professionals. More info

"Since 23% of all IT Help Desk Calls are printer or copier-related and the bulk of those are printer communication issues," said Will DeMuth, Metrofuser’s COO), "this class is essential for anyone in the business of supporting or repairing HP laser printers."

The class will cover a wide range of relevant material for field technicians including driver and firmware installation procedures, NVRAM resets, flash and memory installation, common error code resolutions and TCP/IP network configurations. Students will learn the theory of the systems interface and then work hands-on to configure and install printers and troubleshoot common issues.

“The class is structured in an open, student-friendly format,” said Metrofuser’s Eric Katz, “so that all students will feel comfortable and have their needs met. From entry-level or copier technicians looking to expand their knowledge to Help Desk or Call Center or government service professionals working with managed print services, everyone will come away with a better understanding of how laser printers work in a network environment.”

The goals of the class include:

Understanding the function of the system interface and its configuration.
Performing and understanding control panel operations, including service modes, test pages, firmware updates, and reset procedures.
Understanding and properly correcting error codes associated with the formatter system, TCP/IP
Configuration, driver installations, and firmware update procedures.

Metrofuser offers week-long training classes ten times a year at either one of its two facilities in Roselle, NJ or Santa Ana, CA. It plans to add the Network Printer Communications class to these training blocks, but will continue to offer custom training onsite or offsite to anyone who is interested. The next week of training in California is scheduled for January and another week of training will take place February in New Jersey.

The MPS “Total Solution” model currently being marketed has some customers asking questions. Metrofuser investigated this issue and prepared this article to help educate and inform.

While MPS is an undisputedly viable method of managing and selling services, the execution of locking in a single vendor to provide toner, parts and service may effect your business adversely. Here’s why.

MPS has a substantial learning curve, and requires significant investment of time and money to implement and launch. It is extremely difficult to make changes once started down the path. It is no coincidence that companies are trying to bundle parts and services to capture/own the customer. Dependence on MPS may lead your organization to compromise quality, free market pricing and service for parts, toner and MPS.

All vendors have strengths and weaknesses. The goal is to know and operate with the right partners in their sweet spots and avoid the sand traps. The idea that one company can do all these things well is counter factual.

Research reveals a significant number of printer failures are due mis-handling.



In an effort to reduce preventable failures and warranties, laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser (www.metrofuser.com) has announced a warning for business users of laser printers. Removing certain parts when the printer is turned on can harm the device irrevocably. The company’s research reveals as much as 10% of failures can be traced back to improper handling of these devices.

Metrofuser has issued the warning for all makes and models of Laser Printers and MFPs. A Company spokesperson said this is not an engineering or design problem but more of a failure to follow best practices. A significant portion of the failures are occurring when end users are clearing paper jams and/or investigating service errors while the device is turned on.

This problem is so widespread it ranges from devices with older hot roller technology all the way up to the latest instant-on technology. Fault shows up as error codes referencing damage to the fuser, power supply or other electrical components.

To avoid damage simply turn printer off before removing or installing fusing assemblies. Failing to do so WILL destroy printers’ heating elements, theromistors and power supplies.

These courses will count toward the ServicePLUS factory certification and will be held in Metrofuser's east coast training center in Roselle, New Jersey just minutes from New York City.
