Metrofuser Implements Command Center Technology

Metrofuser Implements
Command Center
Technology

New Technology Increases Process Engineering Efficiency

Roselle NJ- May 1, Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser (www.metrofuser.com) has implemented Command Center Technology in its production department.

Command Center is a culmination of 4 years of development by teams within Metrofuser’s production and logistics departments. The technology is integrated into Metrofuser’s ERP software which feeds real-time production and logistics information to a 42" LCD Display located on the production floor providing Metrofuser's team leaders and the production manager with unprecedented visibility into operational statistics. The data feed will enable managers to quickly act on any issue which, in turn, will even further improve Metrofuser's efficiency and quality.

"The live data feed will allow better visibility to emulate what works throughout the production department and make corrections to what doesn't work quickly and efficiently," says Will DeMuth, Chief Operating Officer at Metrofuser, "This technology will bridge the gap between individual judgment and our existing process engineering. "

Metrofuser’s Command Center Technology scales across all departments providing real-time data views to technicians, sales and logistics personnel. "We believe the impact is going to be dramatic, "adds DeMuth, "the technology is intended to reach beyond the walls of production to everyone in the company."

Areas of Impact

  • Improves management of time and materials

  • Increases ability to manage capacity with demand

  • Eliminates "Just-in-Case" inventory

  • Reduces material trafficking

  • Provides increased accuracy in measuring individual production performance.

Metrofuser Introduces StockWorks™ MPS

Metrofuser Introduces StockWorks™ MPS

Advance stock program designed to help MPS providers reduce costs, improve uptime

Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser (www.metrofuser.com) today announced the release of its StockWorks MPS program for laser printer service companies and rechargers that are offering Managed Print Services (MPS) solutions to their customers. StockWorks MPS, while designed with the MPS provider in mind, is completely software-independent and does not require a specific brand of MPS software.

MPS providers face the challenge of keeping larger inventories and in some cases multiple remote inventory “closets” at customer sites across the country to ensure that they are able to quickly respond to their customers’ printer repair and maintenance needs. Keeping a vast inventory and shipping parts overnight directly to customer sites at a premium eats away at margins already burdened by the current state of the economy. StockWorks MPS eliminates those costs and increases equipment up-time.

Metrofuser Sales Representatives can do a quick trending analysis of an MPS provider’s stock and with some forecasting provided by the MPS provider, Metrofuser will come up with a program that primarily consigns stock to the customer. Customers participating in the program will also be able to enjoy other benefits such as low-to-no cost shipping rates, periodic trending analysis and inventory usage reports, industry forecasting and trending information, ROI analyses, and so on.

“We wanted to come up with a program for all of our customers who have deployed Managed Print Services without mandating or promoting specific software to them,” said Dennis Fotopoulos, Metrofuser’s Director of Strategic Business Development. “In coming up with this program, our intent was to stick with our core competencies – that is, providing high-quality remanufactured laser printer parts along with world-class logistical and fulfillment services.”

“We started this program to enable us to partner with our customers to save on the costly burden of overnight shipping,” said Eric Katz, Metrofuser’s Co-Owner and CFO. “If we’re constantly shipping parts overnight to any one customer, no matter who’s footing that bill or whether we’re splitting it, we’re not optimizing our partnership. We’re both passing our revenues on to the shippers. Metrofuser is willing to take on 90% of our customers’ inventory risk ourselves if we can curtail those practices.”

Metrofuser has been running a controlled introduction of the program and the response has been positive. Says one service provider in South Carolina, “Metrofuser has reduced shipping costs for me, and at the same time has allowed me to increase much-needed inventory without increasing my inventory costs. When I need something immediately, I don’t have to scamper around to get it overnighted.”

Adds Fotopoulos, “We believe that Managed Print Services is here to stay – and while we won’t compete with our customers and throw our hat into the software sales ring, we are committed to focusing on providing services and solutions to our customers that will make their MPS model all that much more profitable.”

Metrofuser Announces the Release of ZeroSet Technology for the Color LaserJet 4700/4730MFP Line of Printers.

Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser (www.metrofuser.com) has introduced ZeroSet technology into their remanufactured HP LaserJet 4700 fusers. ZeroSet technology is a new remanufacturing solution that will automatically reset the fuser count to zero upon fuser installation. According to the HP LaserJet 4700 service manual, an OEM fuser "contains a fuseable link that is opened when a new fuser is first installed in the printer. This resets the page cound of the fuser to zero."

Before ZeroSet, remanufacturers have been distributing fusers that will either not reset the fuser count or have resorted to selling expensive OEM fusers to customers. Metrofuser's ZeroSet technology employs a fuseable link solution similar OEM fuser proprietary technology enabling Metrofusers remanufactured 4700 fuser to properly reset the fuser count to zero upon installation.

"Technicians have always reset page counts themselves, but HP has designed their fusers to reset the fuser page count automatically," said Mark Makuch, Operations Manager at Metrofuser, "With ZeroSet technology, techs can install our remanufactured fusers and be confident that the fuser count will automatically reset like it is supposed to."

"Remanufactured fusers without ZeroSet technology usually will not reset the fuser page count or clear the "REPLACE IMAGE FUSING UNIT" maintenance message," adds Will DeMuth, COO and co-President, "Not resetting the maintenance message or fuser count leaves the technician guessing about fuser life and risks them changing a fuser with thousands of pages worth of life left, or worse, over-extending the fuser potentially risking the printer going down. ZeroSet saves the technician time and their customer money."

REMANUFACTURING MOVING BACK TO US FROM OVERSEAS

REMANUFACTURING MOVING BACK TO US FROM OVERSEAS
Reversing the Decades-Old Trend to Outsource Remanufacturing

In May of this year, global imaging company Canon announced plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities. Given the state of the global economy, they haven’t chosen to do so locally in Japan, nor in the manufacturing-rich and emerging economies of the rest of Eastern Asia. Rather, they have chosen to build it in Virginia, the heart of the eastern United States.

Once the epicenter of global manufacturing, US companies have moved much of their manufacturing outside of the country over the past decades. Canon breaking ground on a new manufacturing facility in the US reverses this trend and creates jobs and certainly eliminates some of the supply chain challenges that they would have faced by importing products from around the globe for resale in the US.

What are the reasons for the trend reversal? In Canon's case, one reason is the positive impact on reducing the CO2 footprint. Tsuneji Uchida, president and chief operating officer, Canon Inc. said in a statement released by Canon, “the combination of producing, selling, collecting and recycling cartridges locally, and eliminating the need to transport products around the world, will allow us to have a positive environmental impact by helping to reduce CO2 emissions worldwide.”

Another reason comes right down to the bottom line savings in time and money. Uchida added that “Canon’s new automated production system will enable the Company to maintain cost competitive manufacturing, better manage labor costs and deliver products in a timely fashion.”

There it is – Finally, the perfect storm that results in localized cost-competitive manufacturing. Until recently, these winds have only skirted US shores, not making any significant impact on the economy, the environment and corporate bottom lines. Now, however, the front has a head-on bearing for us, and it has become the perfect time to turn this storm into a domestic windfall for manufacturing and re-manufacturing companies of all sizes.

The Trend is Clear - Domestic Outsourcing is the Answer
Canon's move validates what remanufacturers across the country have been suggesting for some time – domestic remanufacturing saves time, cost and the environment by simplifying logistics and reducing a company’s carbon footprint. Further, considering the weak dollar and the rising cost of energy worldwide, it makes more sense than it ever has to localize the remanufacturing of IT maintenance items and high mortality parts found in computers, copiers, faxes and printers.

Corporations that do not have the manufacturing infrastructure that companies like Canon have can now look to local manufacturing and logistics companies for solutions that were financially and logistically prohibitive in the not so distant past. Larger service companies and OEMs alike are calling on remanufacturing companies like Metrofuser for reclamation, defective inventory management, recycling and remanufacturing, and warehouse logistics.

As larger OEMs continue to consider domestic remanufacturing and logistics solutions to increase margins and reduce logistical overhead, will US remanufacturing companies answer the call? Will DeMuth, CEO of Metrofuser states, “Over the last year, Metrofuser has invested significant time and resources into providing (those solutions).” He adds, “our commitment to develop and improve service solutions has already helped OEMs maintain their commitment to their own customers, the environment, and their bottom line as we provide them with quality remanufactured laser imaging system components.”

Metrofuser’s August, 2008 move to its new technology center and corporate headquarters in Roselle, NJ “will enable us to expand our operations even further,” DeMuth said.

Metrofuser Celebrates Earth Day – Achieves Another Environmental Milestone

Metrofuser Celebrates Earth Day – Achieves Another Environmental Milestone
Metrofuser spent earth week celebrating its reclamation of over 600,000 pounds of used computer hardware through its recycling program since the company’s inception in 2004.

In July, 2006, Metrofuser had announced its reclamation of over 240,000 pounds and set a goal of 500,000 by the end of 2007.
“We are elated that we not only met our goal set in ’06, but we have far exceeded it,” said Will DeMuth, Co-President, “Contributing to a cleaner environment, establishing ourselves as an environmentally responsible corporate citizen, and continuing to raise the bar to increase responsibility industry-wide.”
As promised in 2006, Metrofuser continued to expand its program through 2007 by raising awareness and increasing the rate of electronics recycling among its business consumers in the United States. “Optimally, we want to achieve a 100% recycling rate, and we will strive to improve and continue to expand the program until we meet that goal.” Last year the imaging recycling industry saved 131 million pounds of solid waste from our nations landfills.

New Partnership Solidifies LeadershipTeam at Metrofuser

New Partnership Solidifies LeadershipTeam at Metrofuser
Laser printer parts manufacturer Metrofuser (www.metrofuser.com) announced that it has implemented a new partnership agreement between co- founder and current Vice President of Marketing and Logistics, Will DeMuth, and current Chief Financial Officer, Eric Katz. Todd Katz, former Vice President of Sales has sold his share of the company. "Todd played an integral role in starting this company," Demuth remarked in a statement issued to employees. "His talents and hard work were vital to the early success of Metrofuser. We all wish him the best of success in his future endeavors."
With the new partnership agreement, Eric Katz will become Co- President with DeMuth while continuing his role as Chief Financial Officer. DeMuth will continue his role as Marketing and Logistics lead. The new partnership is intended to solidify the leadership team at Metrofuser. Mark Makuch remains the Director of Operations and Ken Lang had already stepped in and taken over Todd Katz's position as head of the sales department in 2007. "With Eric as Co-President, we can strengthen the foundation that has made Metrofuser the world-class printer parts manufacturer that it is today," DeMuth stated. "We will continue to improve upon that legacy and provide our customers with the best solutions that the industry has to offer."
Since 2005, Eric Katz has been instrumental in establishing the momentum that Metrofuser has created for itself. Katz's entrepreneurial experience began as co-founder and Director of Research of Jumar Technologies, a New York-based software company. Katz, a graduate of Yale University, also spent several years teaching math, English and creative writing at a public school in the South Bronx and currently sits on the Board of Advisors for the Bronx Academy of Letters.
Katz joined Metrofuser and his diverse skill set and versatility have been invaluable in Metrofuser's rapid development. He has helped steer the ship through three consecutive years of 60+ percent revenue growth and proved his executive value by taking the lead role in Metrofuser's expansion to the West Coast, where David Burchell currently runs Metrofuser’s Santa Ana distribution center. "I don't think we could have pulled off opening our new facility in southern California without Eric's leadership and meticulousness," Demuth said. "There are so many operational, logistical and administrative challenges associated with taking a successful small business and making it a national entity, but with the team we've assembled here, I feel confident that we can handle anything."
Next on the horizon is expanding the production, engineering and distribution facilities in New Jersey. "I look forward to this partnership with Will," Eric Katz added, “and I’m really excited by the opportunities that our relocation will afford us. In a larger facility, we’ll be able to service more customers and explore more markets, build our dedicated team and maintain our obsessive commitment to our customers’ satisfaction."
What else will this new partnership bring? Katz and DeMuth both agree that Metrofuser must continue to explore strategic partnership and acquisition opportunities, launch incentive programs for employees and partners, and more. DeMuth added, "We will, of course, continue with our never-ending new product developments and commitment to product quality."

Metrofuser Enters its 5th Year

Metrofuser Enters its 5th Year
From a basement to “better than OEM,” Metrofuser’s growth continues

September, 2007, marked the onset of Metrofuser's 5th year. Metrofuser, a printer parts remanufacturing company that got its start refurbishing HP LaserJet printer fusers in a co-founder's basement, has grown into a multi-million dollar national corporation that has built its reputation on pioneering “better-than-OEM” remanufactured printer parts.

“I admit, even from those humble beginnings, I have said that our mission isn’t to be the biggest – just the best at serving our customers and employees,” said Will DeMuth, Vice President of Marketing and Logistics, “As we enter our 5th year, and I take a moment to reflect on how far we have come, I truly believe that we have accomplished being the best at serving our customers, and it is only because of our dedicated and talented team here at Metrofuser.”

From out of the basement came a company that got a shot in the arm when they moved to its current facility in Roselle, New Jersey in March of 2004.

Since then, Metrofuser has developed solutions for some of the most frustrating issues that printer service companies have had to experience, namely, in September, 2005, when Metrofuser developed a fix for the defective HP 4200 fuser sleeve. Under the guidance of Mark Makuch, a charter associate and Operations Manager for Metrofuser, the Metrofuser technical research and development team devised a proprietary repair that solved the problem, thus increasing Metrofuser's credibility and reputation within the marketplace.

Drawing from increasing revenues, Metrofuser continued to invest in its Research and Development efforts to expand its line of remanufactured printer parts. In October, 2006 the company devised repair and replacement parts solutions for Lexmark printers, thus beginning the effort to ensure its scalability across a very competitive market environment. “I believe that our entry into the Lexmark repair market has provided our customers with the answer they have been looking for,” stated Ken Lang, Director of Sales, “a single, reliable repair depot for ALL of their laser printer needs – not just for HP.”

With national sales and product inventory on the rise, Metrofuser opened a West-Coast printer parts distribution center in Orange County, CA to significantly reduce shipping costs and times for their growing customer base in the Western and Midwestern United States.

“One of our goals this past year was to provide balance across both coasts – to provide our Western U.S. customers with the same fast and reliable service that we have provided our Eastern U.S. customers since the company opened its doors,” added Eric Katz, Chief Financial Officer, “we continue to grow and now we are preparing to move our corporate headquarters to a larger facility.”

The immediate future brings big plans for the growing company, including expanding the production, engineering and distribution facilities in Roselle by moving to a larger facility, exploring strategic partnerships and acquisitions, and launching incentive programs for employees and partners, not to mention continuing new product developments.

Can Metrofuser maintain the momentum? DeMuth says yes, “I have no doubt that we can maintain our status as a world-class logistics and repair center,” he adds, “better than OEM (printer parts) – that's our goal, and the fact that we have been achieving that goal for the better part of 5 years is truly a testament to the commitment of all of the people that work here.”
From out of the basement came a company that got a shot in the arm when they moved to its current facility in Roselle, New Jersey in May of 2004.

Metrofuser’s BioMetric Label Takes Quality and Traceability to the Next Leve

Metrofuser’s BioMetric Label Takes Quality and Traceability to the Next Level
Metrofuser’s BioMetric Label Innovation Advances Parts Quality
April 25, 2007- Roselle NJ - HP® LaserJet printer parts provider Metrofuser has introduced a BioMetric labeling system for all of its remanufactured parts. The BioMetric label integrates all the critical data points; the who, the what, the how and the when that helps Metrofuser improve and deliver unmatched quality.

Key Elements
Built on Date: Helps service companies and resellers track the part’s life cycle including shelf life and warranty entitlement.

Associated Work Order: Enables Metrofuser to track every part that goes into its rebuilt sub-assemblies, from parts used in the repair process to the procedures followed and finally to how it was packaged. Most importantly it allows us to track the many engineering upgrades that Metrofuser applies to OEM parts to improve their performance.

Technician ID: Allows Metrofuser to isolate, quantify, track and grade the performance history all of the company’s technicians.

Industry Friendly Part Number: Allows experienced and industry newcomers to quickly and easily identify parts and cores which speeds up your reorder process and reduces the chance of ordering incompatible parts.

Generic ID: Allows your technicians and buyers to easily identify Metrofuser products while the company remains a silent and trusted partner.

Who would have thought that a 1” x 1/2” label could contain so much information and make such an impact on the business of service parts? Metrofuser’s BioMetric label carries a wealth of information that helps our parts perform better and last longer. If you represent a service company or resale organization, you owe it to yourself and company to find out what Metrofuser can do for you.
